Artist StatementAs an emerging abstract artist my work, encompassing paintings, sculptures, digitalized art and more, serves as an intricate balance and powerful representation of mental health and my ethnic background. Through a monochromatic aesthetic, I strive to convey profound messages with minimalistic approaches, embodying the concept of saying a lot by doing very little. The use of limited color palettes allows me to focus on texture, form, composition and space, while highlighting the intricate layers of meaning behind each stroke to evoke a sense of balance and tension. Through my work, I seek to inspire a deeper understanding of mental health's complexities while celebrating the appreciation of black culture by creating art that resonates on a visceral level, inviting viewers to find their balance between light and darkness and discover the beauty within the contrasts of life.Mental health is a recurring motif in my work, reflecting the ongoing struggles, broader societal issues, and triumphs that define our inner worlds. Through abstract forms and subtle textures, I aim to evoke the invisible battles that many of us face, fostering a sense of empathy and connection. My art serves as both a personal catharsis and a call to others to acknowledge and embrace their own mental landscapes. As an African American artist, my cultural heritage also plays a crucial role in shaping my artistic voice. I aim to shed light on the unique challenges faced by my community, while also celebrating our resilience and strength. The history and vibrancy of my community are interwoven into the fabric of my work. By merging abstract expressionism with cultural motifs, I strive to honor my roots while pushing the boundaries of contemporary art.In every painting and sculpture, I seek to create a dialogue between light and shadow, serenity and chaos. It is within this interplay that I find the true essence of existence—where beauty emerges from the unexpected and where the human spirit finds its strength. My art is a dialogue between inner turmoil and outward expression, capturing the complexity of navigating mental health within the context of cultural identity. My art is a journey of discovery, both for myself and for those who engage with it, revealing the profound connections that unite us all.
